THE FIRST STEP

SELF FORGOT

THOUGHTS ON THE FUTURE

YOUR GIFT

FROM OUT MY DOOR

THIS CHILD IN ME

I FEEL GOOD

FROZEN MOMENTS

ALONE ALONE I AM ALONE

IN THE TWINKLING OF AN EYE

THE VIOLIN

A TOTAL STRANGER

A PUZZLE SEEKS ITS PIECE

NOW

ENDLESS

TO GO ALONE

WHILE ALIENS LAUGH

WINNING

A CHILD AGAIN

THE FIRST STEP

The first step, is take a step

        The second, take another

No goal is met by thought alone

Action is to thought, a brother

SELF FORGOT

I have a gift of saying things

        That carries your intent

I put in words the thoughts you hold

        But never quite have sent

To all those near and dear to you

        Unexpressed too long withheld

For fear of who you really are

        And rejection not dispelled

The irony is of course you see

You’re accepted for who you’re not

But you’re the one can’t live for long

        Hiding self from self forgot

THOUGHTS ON THE FUTURE

If I could be, for just a second

        All I dream to be

I’d wrap my arms around the world

        Hug it close to me

I’d sooth the pain and calm the fears

Feed the children, their dreams repair

Restore man’s dignity where I find it lacking

        Create new hope, destroy despair

To find is easy, strife and dilemma

Wherever we look, abundance of grief

To fix is difficult, a massive undertaking

The goal is visible, eventual relief

But alas I am but merely mortal

A practical plan needs to be made

A dream or wish wont make it happen

We can’t afford a failing grade

The children are the hope upon

        Which the future rests

We must therefore our plans to make

        With wisdom to invest

Teach, our children they must do right

Not what their parents have done

Love and cooperation, should be the rule

        This battle can be won

We must prepare to raise our standard

        Sight a higher place

The stakes are high, So high it frightens

        Survival, of the human race

YOUR GIFT

The globe is turning slowly

Where will it come to rest

Her eyes are covered tightly

        Hands explore to be impressed

Far or near the two will join

        Somewhere on the map

Foretelling our adventure

And all who see do clap

The globe, itself a gift

        Symbolic metaphor

Begets a new reality

        Far horizons are in store

All that I have cared for

        Worked so hard to save

Comes back to me in earnest

From old subjects of the knave

An honor without equal

As I fight back little tears

A thank you with respect

        High point of business years

All the smiles and all the laughter

        Good natured voices joined

The family is growing

        A new attitude is coined

It is time to change the guard

Pass the torch to others younger

My work will soon be ending

Better done by those who hunger

For a challenge to apply themselves

With all the vigor in their souls

Fresh runners in the relay

Charged with reaching all our goals

And I must move along to

        The next adventure coming

Find new pieces of my being

Songs of life I will be strumming

I have given what was needed

Now it’s time to take my leave

As the fledgling finds its wings

        And itself it does conceive

We all must do our duty and

Move on when it is done

Find new challenges, keep on growing

From the new we must not run

See the joy in each new facet

Of ourselves that we can find

No regrets should we have ever

For an earnest use of mind

So this honor I take with me

Warms my heart and warms my soul

Wherever I may be in life

Sets the standard for my role

And when it’s next my time

        To move ahead, explore

I’ll give the globe a spin

With your gift the gods implore

Keep your spirit that is wonderful

        In my mind for evermore

We are now a part each other

Learned our lessons, that’s for sure

FROM OUT MY DOOR

From out my door I see

        Two secretaries… thigh and knee

A very pleasant sight

        I think you would agree

It strikes me quite a shame

        I haven’t time to look

Problems of the business day

Keep my nose stuck in the book

I wonder if they think of me

Looking out at them each day

As friend or foe or lecherous one

        Plotting a way to play

I really am not interested

        In diversion of that kind

I have my love at home you see

But the view I do not mind

THIS CHILD IN ME

I’m on a plane heading home

        The sun is shining brightly

I’m feeling good, have energy

        Responsibility sits lightly

I feel as if an era’s closed

        I’ve left the old behind

Across the sky my love awaits

In her arms pure joy I’ll find

I’ve come from out a tunnel dark

        A year of transformation

In helping others I have changed

        Result… my own creation

I’m filled with hope and confidence

        No force, resolve deters

From plans I’ve made inside my head

        Or newfound love confers

At last I feel I am adult

        Understanding comes to me

Adulthood is the using of

The child in me to see

With clarity and awe of life

Without the color of a thought

Reduce all things to simplest terms

Find the answers that I’ve sought

Trust the instinct deep inside

        A resource I’m to take

Listen carefully, a voice that knows

        Answers questions that I make

Which brings me back from whence I came

        A child just starting out

With lessons of the years I’ve learned

This child guides me no doubt

I FEEL GOOD

I feel good

        No words to describe

I feel good

        Great to be alive

I’m satisfied

        Don’t know when or why

I’m feeling strong

        Do anything I try

I’m balanced

        Seem to be complete

A new day is dawning

        From life I wont retreat

The world’s a thing of beauty

        Each moment I enjoy

I am a place beyond

        Emissary, an envoy

Bring to all I’m called to know

All the peace I can invoke

Lift a soul a little higher

When my internal voice has spoke

Life is what we make it

        Happiness be not by chance

A choice we all can make

As to the future we advance

Perhaps that’s why I feel so good

I am living to the utmost

Trying all I’ve not before

Through life I will not coast

It’s a thrill to be alive

Took a life to find it out

I simply had to be

Take control, my doubts to rout

FROZEN MOMENTS

Life is made of frozen moments

        Scattered from end to end

All the rest is empty spaces

        With which the moments blend

Though time between can be quite long

        These moments reign supreme

The spaces fade, no memory lasts

        No consequence they seem

Important things are valued more

        Than accumulated time

The cup is not remembered

As is the pleasant wine

 Sometimes inane sometimes profound

        Sometimes just tenderness

There is no rule of what will make

        A moment coalesce

I offer up a prime example

        Bizarre though it may seem

Of how life’s fabric can be built

        Of air and twinkles gleam

Last night I know my phone did ring

        Three AM if I recall

My love did tweak my brain I think

        But I enjoyed it all

“Are you up?” she asked as if

It truly were mid day

Yes I said,… I really was

Our lives are strange that way

Now you may think I make too big

        A deal of what occurred

If you were called at 3AM

Would your wrath be then incurred

Not mine you see cause anger’s not

In the cards for me

I’ll gladly swap my sleep for living

        Or loving, that’s the key

It’s impossible to think

        That angry I would be

To hear the voice of someone

I love and who loves me

To hear her voice at any hour

        Is pleasure for my heart

Especially when we happen to be

        3000 miles apart

I’m part of her, she’s part of me

        Day or night we’re constantly

In touch by voice or body

        Whichever it can be

Every night is merely part of

Every day that goes on by

No reason not to use

        Every minute draw us nigh

Life is what you make it

        A minute can be divine

Not important is duration, even

        Seconds bloom sublime

A look, a fleeting thought,

        Body contact, geometry

Something different at the moment

        Burns itself in memory

It’s the essence of what’s happening

The way it strikes your mind

Perception frozen ever,

Born of senses all combined

In a way not words not logic

Or emotion on it’s own

Can explain what actually happens in

        That instant we’ve all known

When warmth engulfs your being

        In total comprehension

Of the presence of a special

        Heretofore unknown dimension

Of your feelings merging inside

With the sense of what is out

Form a being part ethereal

        A moment special without doubt

When your body has reaction

You’ve not ordered from your brain

When you’re feeling something wonderful

Before you know from whence it came

It’s experience unexpected, an

        Un guessed at reverie

An oasis, …crystal clarity

Lived a second, ceased to be

Stood alone each one does little

To make a life of joy

Concentrate on all the spaces

And with darkness you will toy

But gathered all together these

        Indescribable instants all

Form a consciousness pervasive

Give off light, our hearts enthrall

The secret is…  how we look at things

Link the spaces or the moments

One leaves us very happy

        While the other sadness foments

The choice is up to us

As we build each our perspective

Filter in or out the spaces

        Happiness can be elective

Every new day there’s a chance

A thrilling moment will occur

Expect you will receive it

        A happy future don’t demur

Of course if you should happen on

        A moment sweet, supreme

Remember once you’ve frozen it

It becomes part of the dream

You weave of moments fair and good

        That make up your existence

You can fill space in between

        With love and your persistence

In other words it takes so little

To make your life a joy

Just concentrate on moments best

Last to next you must alloy

An endless chain you can create

        Of joy and happiness

By looking only toward the light

        And loves embrace caress

ALONE ALONE I AM ALONE

Alone alone I am alone

        Only mental images for friend

I learn to live in a world created

From memories the past can lend

The happenings of today become

Tomorrow’s forming play

The actors on my stage of life

        Use scripts, my repartee

A cast of thousands on my call

That say and do my choice

Anything I want can happen

If I deem to give them voice

I call them each in turn to ask

        Their wisdom and advice

They help me plan beyond my ken

        A useful mind device

.

IN THE TWINKLING OF AN EYE

In the twinkling of an eye

        Life can cease to be

Around every coming corner

A surprise may come to be

Waste not a single moment

Tell all you love, you do

These precious times in life

        Are far apart and few

Give those special someones

        The joy this knowledge brings

Let them drink their fill of love

While to this life they cling

Let them know how much they mean

To you in all the ways

That bring you pleasure And inspire

And thank them for their days

Of dedication to your life

And growth of your own soul

The parts of them in you endowed

Which serve to make you whole

Don’t wait until they’re sick, to pour

        All you feel on them

It’s not about your conscience or

        Who will, your acts condemn

It’s quality of life received

        And given back again

You owe it to your loved ones to

        Secure the same for them

Don’t miss a single chance to be

        Liberal with your heart

Not waiting for the right time, or

        They’ll leave before you start

THE VIOLIN

Ever so sweetly the strings are singing

Deep within me the music goes

Vibrations seem to hold and play me

I am captive to the bow

Every note does effect me

I am more than simply listening

I am part of all the music

        My attachment it’s insisting

Like a sympathetic tuning fork

        My existence it dictates

Each and every note that’s played

        Directs sadness or elates

Strong emotions made to vary as

        The instrument performs

Emanating a connection

In the gut a feeling’s born

Though notes are captured by my ears

        Their beauty comprehended

Their message surely found my soul

        The composers soul extended

A TOTAL STRANGER

A total stranger moves

        Across my field of view

Nicely turned ankles

        Other parts attractive too

Face is nothing special

        Doesn’t whet my appetite

And yet her covered movements

        Hold my vision, directing sight

Unseen there is privacy

        Beneath a pretty skirt

Softly shifting firmness

        Behind a silky shirt

What is it that is stirring

        Within me very deep?

Not a reason I can think of

With her to want to sleep

This scene has been repeated

        A thousand times before

Despite my contemplation

        I understand no more

If I take it all apart

        Examine it minute

Her looks do not attract me

For me she does not suit

I haven’t any interest

In the tasting of her charms

She surely cannot offer

What I find in my love’s arms

And yet………

Something must attract me

        I always want to look

I’ve studied it intensely

        And cannot find the hook

I guess it is our nature

        Attraction of the sexes

Designed to save the species, but

        It befuddles and perplexes

For me, I fill my senses

With the joy of honest looking

I need not prove my manhood

        By constant passion cooking

I have the best of both worlds

To look and see, I’m free

My love supplies the passion

        More important, intimacy

Life gives to us a challenge

Be an animal or a man

Either is acceptable, but

        The consequences stand

Man has the capacity to

        More than procreate

He has a hand determining

        What final is his fate

He has by dint of mind

        The creation of his joy

He can share it with another

If his love he does employ

But if he chooses baser life

        He’ll come to understand

The direction of his future

        Only loneliness commands

A PUZZLE SEEKS ITS PIECE

A hundred lives ago

        A piece that didn’t fit

Thought its home a puzzle

And searched in vain for it

Battered and reformed, it changed

        No longer what it was

A thousand other bits attached

From lives it lived or rushed

The journey nears its end

Or so it seems to be

Assembled over many years

        The puzzle is now me

As sought became the seeker

        The puzzle sought release

Looking for itself in hopes

        Of finding final peace

NOW

Life… an endless string of nows

Today, a bridge that time allows

From past to future it has not met

The leap from was, to what is not yet

Eternal orphan, born to flee

Now, will not the future see

Live one day, eternally

Fade before the future be

Forever out beyond your reach

Tomorrow’s purpose is to teach

That now is truth, reality

And living is the faculty

Caught between, forever so

To past, nor future allowed to go

Now, the only life you know

Is in the moment’s, gifts bestowed

ENDLESS

What does denote my life’s beginning?

Not birth of flesh but soul

A time before the cloak I wear

        Became this latest role

What is the essence of the me

        I see in mirrored glass?

Within the thoughts behind the mask

        That time allows to pass

A child of all that ever was,

        Of kin as yet uncounted

A product of the universe

        And times not yet recounted

A brother or a sister, mother

        Father children too

All and none I am become

        Endless, that is true

TO GO ALONE

From out the womb the babe is born

Of warmth and comfort to be shorn

Learn it must to go alone

        Practice skills and talents hone

Breath it gets from seeds were sown

The rest is earned, this much is known

Tested by the winds of life

Its Lessons learned by strain and strife

Joy triumphant reigns supreme

When struggle brings to fruit the dream

No sweeter nectar can be had

Or drunk by growing lass or lad

Then mettle tested, strong and sound

And all that’s needed, inside is found

WHILE ALIENS LAUGH

Into the void

        Scurrilous ‘droid

Life was better

        Before you annoyed

Aliens many

        Computer made

Box office money

        Much be made

Science fiction

        May be fun

Unless it’s pleasant

I think I’ll run

Life supplies us

        Plenty trouble

Don’t need more things

        Burst my bubble

Neither need I

        To be scared

Pay my money

        See grizzly bared

Blood and gore

        Guts turned out

21st Century

        Fans devout

Humans have now

        Started path

Destroy our world

        Real aliens laugh

WINNING

The battle is joined, phrases purloined

        Jockey reshuffle regroup

Looks are absorbed, postures nuanced

        Counter each cut then recoup

Filter each word store every fact

Connect them with deft and with speed

Parry and feign never to deign

To win by a dastardly deed

Slowly to weave, direct not deceive

        Build an irrevocable plot

Roll with the blows, be sure nothing shows

        Keep hidden the damaging shot

When they are all spent, thinking you’re rent

Destroyed and worn thin by their volley

Unbridle your power, show fury don’t cower

        Triumphantly trample their folly

A CHILD AGAIN

I lay down on my back, look

        Up into the sky

The clouds are forming animals

        That creep into my eye

Here a horse, there a lion

        And then a myna bird

A goat becomes a chariot, and

        It doesn’t seem absurd

A great celestial movie screen

        Kaleidoscope for me

I am master of the universe

        Create what I do see

Air out all the corners, let

My mind wander free

Alter my perspective as

The sun shines down on me

My years are disappearing, as

        Floating, I can see

This old perspective taken

Makes a child again of me
