LOVERS

HOW DO YOU KNOW?

VALENTINES DAY

PARIS WITH MY LOVE

FIRST TIME

ENGAGEMENT

EXISTENCE WITHOUT YEARS

IN AN INSTANT

LAST NIGHT I THINK A VOICE DID WAKE ME

LOVE CAN END

LOVE IS FRAGILE

THE POWER OF A WORD

TWO

More a man I am today

            I was at twenty two

The credit for this wondrous feat

            Belongs, my love, to you

Energy I have to spare

            Each day for loving true

Born of freedom in my soul

            With which you did imbue

I am complete I have it all

            One of the fortunate few

The secret of my bold rebirth

            Lies in the number two

US

Lovers two

            Me and you

Entwined we are,

Near or far

We have passion, we have play

Love and laughter lead the way

PRISONER OF SELF

Deep within the heart of me

Yearning finds no words to be

Feelings struggle to be free

            Expression from inside can’t flee

Verse of love I want to say

            Draw unto me others, play

Speak my soul brand new way

Find with you a place to stay

Turmoil, storm, expression naught

Fear to say, what I ought

I am here if me you’ve sought

Free this prisoner of self that’s caught

SWEET TORTURE

She leads me oh so lovingly

            Up that mountain road

Sweet torture is in store for me

            Till my passion can unload

To stand upon the cliff of joy

            My ecstasy in the offing

A view beyond belief to feel

            A decision not for scoffing

To stay,… enjoy the view from here

            Or jump, enjoy the rush

Neither is the better choice

After both there is a hush

A quiet afterglow that stays

            Long within my ken

And leaves anticipation of

The next trip for me, when?

DREAMS

Abundant Joy, friendship rare,

For these in youth, I surely dared

To dream in age they would be there

But life did twist and turn and scare

Convince me dreams, not life, are fair

Years did pass and youth did go

The joys I knew did ebb and flow

But none sustained my aching soul

They left me cold as unlit coal

Then, an accident of fate

Combined us two who could relate

Forced me to my views restate

            Allowed my being to elate

To this soul I chose to cling

Whose presence brought desire to sing

And ultimately bells to ring

And our two hearts in flight to wing

With laughter and with joy each day

We make of living, fun and play

Enjoy the miracle of loves warm way

For which in youth, I oft did pray

I bask in dreams that have come true

A heaven built of me and you

Brought back to, the me I knew

When just a youth, I dreamt of you.

WHAT LOVE HAS LENT

Playing at the edges of

            Passion up and coming

A trembling in the depths portends

            Pamploma’s bulls a running

Softly filling up the room

            Deceptive ease and calm

Wrapped in warmth and joy benign

            We’re cradled in a psalm

Whose chorus rises ever higher

            Fills us with delight

As heavenward our souls are flying

            With abandon in their flight

As if in dream, awareness dawns

            Of destination coming

View obscured of road we traveled

            The rush, our senses numbing

Free we are of gravity

            The rocket’s fuel is spent

In peace we float above it all

            Enjoy, what love has lent.

VIEW

I look across your shoulder

From the pillow where I lay

To a Gently swelling curve

            Where lovingly I did play.

The other is invisible

            Behind a neck so warm

But it calls to be remembered

            For equality is the norm.

The memories of ecstasy

Still swirl within my brain

The afterglow of loving soothes

Like a quiet summer rain.

The rise and fall of breath keeps

My eyes riveted there

Magnificent in shape I

Still taste that place so fair.

More than I can stand

I reach out to touch again

I never get enough of you

My love, my life, my ten.

LOVERS

Tousled covers, disarray

            Pillows all askew

Lovers wound together, sated

            Warmth, in passion’s lieu

Smiles living on their lips

            Peace pervades the scene

Boundaries dissipate as they

            Into each other lean

Floating ever softly on

A cloud of their own making

Securing for themselves the joys

Life has for just the taking

THE BEGINNING

Where was the place it all began?

The product of a pasta man

Owned by Paul, a restaurant

            Of  which I am pontificant

A place that crowds fill eagerly

            And some return quite frequently

For me it was a re-acquaintance

            Enjoyed for alimentary maintenance

For here began adventure long

The midst of which is going strong

Though I have traveled far from then

My life began, I think back when

Quite perchance she came to eat

            Unable timely find a seat

Availed herself my table offered

And from her wine, quite red was proffered

Talk we did from that day on

Oft times until the day was gone

Discussing subjects A to Z

And merging two of us, to we

HOW DO YOU KNOW?

How do you know

Things I’ve yet to tell you?

How do you sense

What’s not yet in your view?

How do you feel

What I’m not able to describe?

How do you make

            Me feel I have imbibed?

How do you know

            More than I, of me?

Is it a product of

The two of us as we?

How do you know

            Just the things I need?

Without the benefit,

            Of giving you my lead

That which you know

            Is surely from beyond

Using unknown senses,

            You’re channeling our bond

VALENTINES DAY

How shall I choose a gift to say

The importance of the role you play

For each attempt at choice I make

Proves at end to be mistake

No candy could initiate

A taste as sweet your lips relate

No gem could shine as bright your eyes

Nor flowers scent your equal rise

No wine could quicken my heart’s beat

Or bring to me your passion’s heat

No garment could contest your looks

You teach me more than all my books

Though I have written many words

In praise of you without reserve

My poems seem inadequate

This day my feelings to acquit

In the end it seems to me

The gift of simple truth will be

The best of me to give to thee

I love you, words said honestly

PARIS WITH MY LOVE

I’ve been here many times before

The scenery is the same

What makes today so lovely?

            Elizabeth is her name.

This place is called the City of Love

            Cause lovers do abound

Along the Seine we see them stroll

            We find them all around

I see the sights with eyes anew

            Eiffel Tower,…  Bateou Mouche

Ride the river in an August rain

            My love beside me loose.

We walk, we talk, we eat, we see

            The present holding sway

A moment in time is frozen forever

This memory will last, much more than a day.

FIRST TIME

That moment in time

That feeling sublime

In crossing the line

Majestic incline

Thundering heart

Shaking apart

Spontaneous start

Passion impart

Strange and surreal

Fear and need feel

Hunger for meal

Devour what I steal

Magic in touch

Almost too much

In ecstasy clutch

Another as crutch

Essence is drained

Sight is regained

Euphoria reigned

All unexplained

ENGAGEMENT

Today is the time

I spring the big surprise

Only the ring is unexpected

Our love, The two of us ties…..

I’ve planned this deed for quite a while

            Only Sis and Lisa know

A wedding and betrothal here

On the same day, …quite a show

This is not a time of nervousness

            The decision is for sure

A partner I have chosen now

            A finer love, …mature.

Perhaps she’s chosen me

Or fate does take a hand

It really doesn’t matter

            This move my love command.

We dance around the floor

            I notice we’re alone

Lisa’s gone and told the audience

Of the plan that I have sown

I find the perfect moment

Take the ring from out my coat

Place it on her waiting finger

Words not sticking in my throat.

Many hands around are clapping

For the two of us I hear

But my eyes are fixed on her face

As the joy brings her a tear.

Moments such as these

Are too precious to let go

I write them down in rhyme

            To insure that others know.

Ink and paper aren’t needed

To remind me of these times

They are burned into my memory

Love inspires me to these lines.

EXISTENCE WITHOUT YEARS

Religion is a plan for life

            No matter which it is

And I will take you for my wife

Cause both of ours, are his

Our motives are the purest, we

            In love and candor live

We care for one another with

            All we have to give

Dedicated both are we

To do the best we can

Begin a journey, has no end

            Eternal joy we plan

We have found in each a partner

            The perfect complement

What we are lacking for our needs

            Between us we’ll invent

We are complete within ourselves

            Go forward without fears

Ready for his higher plan

            Existence without years

IN AN INSTANT

Perception is reality

            Creates its own demise

Listening to your deepest fears

            On truth will put disguise

The gaze between two lovers

Isn’t made of steel or glass

But faith that holds the souls together

            Imparts the strength it has

As fragile as a beam of light

            It is or isn’t there

Absence is a cataclysm

            Leaves room to nourish fear

In time too small to measure

The thread of bond pulls thin

Doubts inception spreads its pain

            Life takes a sickening spin

In an instant worlds dissolve

            History matters not

New demeanors to resolve

            Understand, or not

Now is time for strength of love

            Go beyond the view

Deep within, the ties that bind

            Must recreate, renew

Faith remains the only bridge

            From darkness into light

Hold on to the love you know

Use your heart to give you sight

LAST NIGHT I THINK A VOICE DID WAKE ME

Last night I think a voice did wake me

To ask if pages four or three

Were right to have by wire transmitted

Or a blank one slip in accidentally

Perhaps I dreamt, it’s all so vague

            It’s difficult to remember

I hope her voice I really heard

            It seems like last December

LOVE CAN END

My love and I are to be married

            Grandchildren will be guests

A treat for them unusual

            Watch adults begin a quest

See grown ups playing in their way

            While children must behave

Turn the tables on each other then

            No attempt to logic save

Marriage is a concept that

            Is grasped by little minds

A second marriage has no chance

            Understanding never finds

It frightens them that love can end

            That they alone, can be

I’ve been that route and I can tell

            It also frightens me.

LOVE IS FRAGILE

Love is fragile love is strong

            Injured by perception wrong

A simple thought that is not true

Wrecks the strength, destroys the glue

Faith is what sustains the love

Gives the courage to rise above

If together we will be

We must believe what we can’t see

That in our hearts the ties that bind

To all but lover makes us blind

Gives us knowledge, certainty

The ties that bind make us free.

THE POWER OF A WORD

How can a word destroy a life

            Turn sunshine into rain

A random thought, an accident

Gives birth to doubt and pain

What gives the negative thought its power

            To tear asunder love

Sicken us to the very core

Like the punch of a boxer’s glove

Why do we grasp the bad so quickly?

            And question all the good

Self image wrecks what we expect

            Assault is not withstood

The answer lies within our heart

            And not within our mind

We are the one that we must love

            Our confidence not undermined

By any words that come our way

            To penetrate our soul

When worth is known within ourselves

No words make less the whole.

We cater not to doubt and worry

            But revel in today

Build upon our deep beliefs

A home for love to stay
